School Transition

The school works closely in partnership with a large number of Primary schools to provide a purposeful and smooth transition for students of all backgrounds and circumstances.

The school offers a large range of enrichment and support activities to students at the key points of the transition process. These have included:

  • Transition team ‘Passport to High School’ workshops run by DMHS students in local primary schools

  • Pen Pal Transition programme with Hobbayne Primary school and Year 7 students

  • International, award winning author, Dave Cousins, workshops for Year 7 students and their Year 6 pen pals

  • Transition team building exercises Year 7 and Year 12

  • Pupil Premium Summer School including visits to places such as the theatre, Sky Studios, Tower of London, Cadbury World and Buckingham Palace

  • Subject option support programme and booklet for Year 9 students selecting their GCSE choices

  • Induction workshops for new Year 12 students

  • Transition Expressive Arts Festival

  • Netball workshops run by KS3 students with local primary schools

  • Transition schemes of work developed for, and in liaison with, local primary schools

  • Drama Transition Workshop

  • SEAL support Year 7 pastoral team

  • Scheme of work audit to ensure continuity in the transition from KS2 to KS3

  • Maths Faculty Transition Buddies

  • Science Transition Workshops
